On the Pitch

December 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I wanted to start this blog to throw a few observations out there. So as time goes by I’ll be addressing things that may or may not interest you, and that’s fine. I will warn those with tender aural sensibilities that there will occasionally be a profane word or twelve in a post, so either deal with it or don’t read the blog. I want these posts to be legitimate, not just “This team sucks because I said so”. While I am passionate about certain teams (and you will figure out who they are pretty quickly) it is after all just a sport and I don’t really wish that anyone would die heinously.

For the purposes of this blog the game will be referred to as FOOTBALL because that’s what it is. Not soccer (what the hell is a soccer anyway?). So for those who think that football is played by men in armour plating and helmets THROWING a ball to each other, wrong blog. Football is a beautiful sport played around the world by some of the finest athletes. There are strategies and techniques and some of the most amazing footwork you will ever see. So if you haven’t seen a football match in its entirety please give it a try.

I’m interested in all of the speculation around who will be the new England manager. Will it be Jose “The Special One” Mourinho? “Big Phil” Scolari? Guus “Insert Moniker Here” Hiddink? Some say he should be English because England should be managed by and Englishman. If you want a manager who has a track record of success whith a team that has become marginalized you go with Jurgen Klinsmann. Germany was in the express elevator down when he stepped in and he took that team by the scruff of the neck and lead them to a suprising third place finish in the World Cup. But in truth I think that even Klinsmann wouldn’t be able to lead this current group of players to third in a three team tournament. So many of the “Golden Generation” are so self involved and regionalized that they will NEVER be successful for England. This is not the Chelsea National Team, or the Manchester United National Team, or the Liverpool National Team. This is the ENGLAND NATIONAL TEAM! And all of these teams play in ENGLAND! So play like you’re an Englishman or get off of the team! Personally I want to see Vinnie Jones become the new England manager. Yes I know he was Juggernaut in X-Men, but before he was a tough guy actor he was a no nonsense midfielder who never let up on the pitch. He is the type of manager that would bury his foot up the asses of these primadonnas (literally) and they would either pull together or get off of the team. Anyway, whoever gets the job should ditch the superstars and bring in players who bleed white and blue. They may not win every game, but they wouldn’t give up until the final whistle blew.
